On Scenes From Hell, Japanese quintet Sigh delivers symphonic, epic metal that calls upon classical instrumentation to accent sinister melodies with fanciful themes.
Ambient improvisational duo Colorlist texturalizes sound by utilizing delayed, echoing loops, mounting tension, harmonic and dissonant layers, and germane percussion.
And producer RJD2 returns with something of a split release — a disc with more soulful jams as well as some pointed, inventive instrumentals. (more…)

Math-groove merchants Coalesce issue a must-have accompaniment to their decade-long comeback disc, combining more Western-driven melancholy to go with their regular dose of thunderous hardcore for OXEP.
Musical mastermind Omar Rodriguez Lopez adds to his mountainous prog catalog with Xenophanes, this time leaning on scurrying piano lines and taking full vocal control for an accessible yet technical record. Led by ex-Radio Birdman vocalist Rob Younger, Australian garage rockers The New Christs apply their long-form minimalism to a new batch of post-punk anthems.

Doom quintet Bloody Panda, led by Osaka visual artist Yoshiko Ohara, employs bewitching vocals amidst tidal waves of distortion, dissonant ambiance, otherworldly organ, and wicked screams.
