abfbw_forweb.jpgFollowing eight months of online riff-swapping, the scattered Midwesterners of Able Baker Fox rehearsed only once before recording their upcoming debut, Voices, in less than a week at the studio of engineer/producer Ed Rose (Coalesce, The Get Up Kids, Reggie and the Full Effect). Merging old tour buddies and collaborators from melodic post-hardcore groups Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery, its members say a combination of history and distance made the record “effortless.” Read more

Kicking off their second bout of outrageous antics is the video for the first single “Run”. Directed by Guy Shelmerdane and Richard Farmer, the video is centered around a 90’s public access show called City Vibin’ Read more

ZoroasterEver notice how the most of the best (non-local) shows in Chicago during the winter feature bands from the South? My first couple of years in town I assumed that it was because nobody bothered telling them how disgusting and miserable winter could be. I was wrong. Read more

Dalek - photo by Cindy FreyThe pairing of heavy rock instrumentalists Russian Circles and experimental hip-hop duo Dälek might seem to be a mismatched live bill for genre purists. Although over 20,000 lawsuits have been filed by the RIAA against people who file share music, only one, so far, has made it to a court room. Everyone else had the good sense to settle out of court for a few grand.

Weekly Burlesque: Sex Worker’s Art Show Riles ‘Em UpI wanted to go on the Sex Workers’ Art Show Tour this year, as I did last year, but I withdrew my application because I also wanted to stay and work on the new space for the School of Burlesque.
