The rare CD/vinyl EP, titled Manfauna, won’t exactly be heard on any Clear Channel radio stations anytime soon. That, however, shouldn’t preclude fans from scouring independent record stores for it beginning August 13, the day of its release. The Latitudes series began as a way for Southern to reconnect to its late-’70s roots as a recording studio. Each artist that has recorded for the series — including dynamic cross-culturalists Grails, raspy folk guitarist William Elliot Whitmore, and noise abstractionists Magik Markers and soon to include hip hoppers Dalek and Sole — did so at the label’s home in London. Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses, which includes guitarist Daniel O’Sullivan and drummer Dave Smith of art rockers Guapo, will have their 2005 album Perils soon available on vinyl from Rise Above Records. Web of Mimicry, home of Indian/surf/metal gurus Secret Chiefs 3, originally released the full-length disc. Email This
