Bjork’s Volta Set for May 8 Release

Icelandic songstress and international icon Bjork will have her sixth full-length album released by One Little Indian / Atlantic Records on May 8, and it sounds mighty intriguing.

Volta, the follow-up to 2004’s a cappella release Medulla, features ten tracks written and produced by Bjork, and features collaborations with Timbaland (Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake), improvisational drummer Chris Corsano (Sonic Youth, Paul Flaherty / Chris Corsano Duo), drummer/singer Brian Chippendale (Lightning Bolt), Malian kora player Toumani Diabate, and Konono No. 1, an experimental Congolese dozen-member band that won a BBC World Music Award in 2006.

A ten-piece brass section also plays on three tracks and Chinese pipa expert Min Xiao-Fen makes a cameo.

Bjork will be performing at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Fesitval on Friday, April 27, a day that also features Sonic Youth, DJ Shadow, Peeping Tom, El-P, Of Montreal, Gogol Bordello, and many others, as well as Saturday, May 26 at Sasquatch Music Festival.
