The Mars Volta Prep for Fourth Album in Four Years

Aren’t you tired of waiting two or three circulations around the sun for a new full-length disc? Well, The Mars Volta has you covered. According to the website for Gold Standard Laboratories, the prog-fusion masters will be heading into the studio in April to record a new full-length album, which is tentatively slated for a late-summer release.

The news is fairly surprising given that the last effort from Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Amputechture, was just issued in September of 2006. If the release isn’t pushed back, it will maintain a torrid pace of production for the duo, which will have released four full works in just over four years.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez-Lopez, the man responsible for all of The Mars Volta’s non-vocal arrangements, is set to release another solo full-length disc on GSL in May. The album is titled Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo and has a track called “Chores” available to be heard at myspace.com/goldstandardlaboratories.

The Mars Volta is currently touring Australia before playing a few dates in California in late March and early April.
